Some places make you happier than others.

Northaw Great Wood (staple playgroung when growing up)

It would appear I like cool, hilly, wooded, rocky, with rivers and lakes. Sometimes snowy. An environment of glades and gorges.

Why these landscapes? Why not coasts, city-scapes, or tropical greenery?

Nuture? Northaw Great Woods were on our doorstep but so were rolling fields. And London was close-by too. My parent took us walking in hilly wooded places when we were little but they also took us to Spain, Greece and Florida. I haven’t developed an affection for orange groves and olive trees, in spite of loving those holidays.

Nature? It could just be practical. I’m pale. I burn easily, I overheat quickly. I tend not to be that happy in hot places. Maybe I’m just more fit for the woods. And f you go back to great grandparents then they are from Ireland, Scotland, Austria and Devon. All places that could supply most of the required elements.

In the bones, perhaps?
